Tamil Nadu has banned online games involving betting and will slap a whopping Rs. 5,000 fine and a jail term of 6 months on violators.
Games that involve any shape of “betting” inwards cyberspace, or “wagering” or anything that involves the electronic distribution of funds to win prizes or involves the exchange of money —all of that is banned! Several multiplayer games similar Rummy, involve an initial investment of some money to go inwards the game to be able to play with other gamers.
This might be a huge blow for professional gamers who depend on online gaming for earning their primary source of income. Additionally, gamers will not be able to purchase any add-on for such games.
The ban has been brought inwards primarily due to fewer regulations un the online gaming space. Also, because due to online gaming, many innocents, youngsters mostly are being cheated, lost massive amounts of money and some of them have got l-l committed suicide. Then there’s the involvement of kids as well, who don’t have got money but destination up succumbing to peer pressure, leading to unpleasant outcomes. Just a couple of weeks back, 2 men, aged 28 and 32, killed themselves after incurring huge debts inwards an online game! It was after that and a lot of other such cases that the state’s CM, E Palaniswamy stepped up pressure on his govt and promised action.
But Tamil Nadu is not the foremost state where online gaming, gambling, and betting as a sport is banned.
