Karnataka HC Lifts Ban On Online Gaming, Calls It 'Unconstitutional' | Talk To Bhupen | India Ahead

inwards September 2021, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly passed the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act, 2021. The law amended the Karnataka Police Act – the law governing betting and gambling inwards the state. The amendment was introduced to explicitly bring online games under the purview of the law and to ‘wean the citizens away from the vice of gambling’. It prohibited all online games – including games of skill, when played for monetary stakes.

A petition challenging the law was filed inwards October 2021 by the All-India Gaming Federation.

inwards its judgement announced on February 14, 2022, the High Court struck downwards the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act, 2021 as ‘unconstitutional’. The court also directed the Karnataka authorities to not interfere with online gaming businesses.
