Is Fiber cyberspace Really Better for Gaming?

Gamers are passionate about their cyberspace – I should know since I am one. Gamers say a fiber connection is the best, but is that really true?

The Basics:

– DSL
-Been around the longest
-Runs along your phone line
-Basic cyberspace users
-Primary weakness is distance.

-Cable
-Much faster than DSL
-Runs through your coax connection
-Doesn’t rely on proximity for signal strength
-Weakness is the shared connection and subsequent reliability.

-Fiber
-drinking glass/Plastic wiring (means its REALLY fast!)
-Generally symmetrical (matching upload & download speeds)
-Attractive to gamers & twitch streamers.

But speed isn’t the most of import thing! hither’s what is:

-Latency (ping)
-The time it takes for data to create a round trip between you and
your ISP
-LOWER IS BETTER
-This is why Satellite cyberspace isn’t great for gaming

-Packet Loss
-Data bundles being sent back and forth between you and your
ISP
-Don’t want these getting lost or corrupted
-The closer to ZERO the better

-Jitter
-The change inwards latency over time

So… Does speed matter for gaming? You bet, but not as much as you might think. Gaming actually doesn’t require lightning speeds!

What matters more is how reliable your connection is when it comes to Latency, Packet Loss, and Jitter. Any cyberspace connection type (DSL, Cable, Fiber) can deliver great results inwards those categories.

So is Fiber the best? It’s newer, more reliable, and tends to deliver the best speeds, as well as Latency, Packet Loss, and Jitter. The only problem is it’s REALLY expensive and not available everywhere.
